Q: What is WBEM?
A: Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) is an industry initiative. It consists of a set of management and Internet standard technologies developed to unify the management of enterprise computing environments.

Q: What are the three major components making up the "WBEM triangle"?
A: They are the CIM model for data description, xmlCIM for transport encoding and CIM-XML as protocol for exchanging CIM information.

Q: What is CIM?
A: The Common Information Model (CIM) developed by the Distributed Management Taskforce (DMTF) is an object-oriented approach to management of heterogeneous systems and networks.

Q: What are the three conceptual layers of CIM?
A: The Core Model, Common Model and Extension Schemas.

Q: What is SMI?
A: The Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI Version 1.0) is an open standard API which will eventually integrate large, diverse multi-vendor storage networks. It was called Bluefin for more than a year while it was undergoing rigorous testing and development by companies such as IBM, HP and EMC.
