How to Participate in the SMI Process

Individuals and companies that are interested in the Storage Management Initiative are encouraged to get involved and participate in the rapid development and adoption of the industries first storage management standard. The first step is to become a SNIA member. Once a SNIA member, a number of choices are available and briefly explained below to work on SMI related activities.

Membership is open to any Company, Non-Profit Organization, or Individual interested in promoting the adoption of Storage Networking technology. Classes of membership include:

  • SNIA General Memberships
  • SNIA Forum Memberships

Once a SNIA member, a number of areas are available to join. They are briefly explained below.

Join the SMI Committee

The purpose of the SMI Committee is to provide oversight and coordination to each related functional component in the SNIA and to launch new programs such that goals are met and tangible value accrued by member companies on a time line that is accepted by the industry.

Join the SMI Technical Steering Group

The SMI-TSG is comprised of technical leaders from the SNIA Technical Council as well as chairs from Technical Work Groups and ensures that the SMI- Specification provides interoperability and functionality that is accepted by implementers of the interface.

Join the SMI Developer's Network

The SMI Developer's Network will be open to all SMI-S developers, SNIA Members and Non-Members. There is an annual membership fee to belong to the Developers Network. If your company is already a SNIA member of the Storage Management Forum there will be a discount to join the SMI Developers Network. Membership fees are based on individual membership.

Join a SNIA Technical Work Group

The SNIA's Technical Work Groups work together to develop technical working documents, specifications, and methodologies that accelerate the adoption of storage networking.

These technical work groups consist of volunteers from the SNIA member companies who collaborate to develop technical solutions and to promote the adoption of storage networking by creating deliverables required to meet the goals of the Technical Council, as managed by the Technical Director.
