Blades Subprofile

Next

The Blades Subprofile is referenced by the Switch Profile as an optional enhancement for Director Class Switch devices. A Director Class Switch is one that has a large number of Ports and provides fault tolerance. The Ports are located on separate physical components called Blades that can be inserted or removed from the Switch device as needed. This form factor allows for easy expansion or replacement.

Using this Subprofile, a Client can perform the following management tasks:

  • Enumerate all the Blades in a Switch
  • Enumerate all the Ports on each Blade
  • Ask to be notified when a Blade is inserted into or removed from the Switch
  • Ask to be notified when the status of a Blade changes (e.g., from “OK” to “Degraded”)

Client can retrieve physical information about the Blade hardware. For example, a Client can retrieve the version or serial number. Additionally, a Client can retrieve product information about the Blade hardware. For example, a Client can retrieve the vendor name and an identification number (e.g., SKU).
