CIM | WBEM

SMI-S 1.1.0 uses the Common Information Model (CIM) as its data model. The Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) has published a CIM Specification which defines the meta-model elements. The DMTF has also published a CIM Schema. Using the meta-model rules and syntax, CIM objects have been defined for many different components and aspects in an enterprise computing environment. SMI-S 1.1.0 uses these CIM object definitions.

SMI-S 1.1.0 also uses the Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) technology. WBEM is a set of standards that allow a Client to performa operations on CIM data that is managed by a WBEM Agent.

The following sections describe each in further detail.
