A SNIA Subprofile can be referenced by a SNIA Profile to allow optional inclusion of additional capability. Some Subprofiles are applicable to many different types of SNIA Profiles. SMI-S 1.1.0 identifies such Subprofiles as Common Subprofiles. They are

Access Points - allows a Client to remotely manage the elements of the referencing Profile using a Web browser, telnet or other interface

Device Credentials - allows a Client to change the shared secret (i.e., password) that is used to control access to the devices of the referencing Profile

Job Control - allows a Client to asynchronously monitor a long running operation in the referencing Profile

Location - allows a Client to retrieve information about the physical location of the device or element managed by the referencing Profile

Multiple Computer System - allows a Client to retrieve configuration information about devices in the referencing Profile that have redundancy and fault tolerant characteristics

Software - allows a Client to retrieve information about the software or firmware installed on the device or element managed by the referencing Profile
SMI-S 1.1.0 identifies two other groups of Common Subprofiles that apply to a smaller set of Profiles. The Common Target Ports Subprofiles apply to Profiles that manage the generic SCSI capabilities and transport-specific aspects of target storage systems such as disk arrays and tape libraries.
