Fabric Path Performance Subprofile

Next

The Fabric Path Performance Subprofile is referenced by the Fabric Profile as an optional enhancement that allows a Client to retrieve performance statistics for the path between an initiator and target within a Fabric. Data path connections are often made between SAN resources in a Fabric. For example, a NAS Head system will get its storage from external storage such as a disk array. The NAS will create a path from it to the array. Using this Subprofile, a Client can do the following:

  • Enumerate the initiator-to-target paths in a Fabric
  • Determine the endpoints for each path
  • Collect performance statistics for each path
  • Retrieve the path performance statistics in groups

To collect these statistics, a Client first enumerates all of the active initiator to target paths in a particular Fabric. Then, the Client retrieves statistics about the number of bytes transmitted and received for each active path.

Optionally, a vendor can choose to record the time that the statistic was collected. A Client can determine the sample interval and time of the last sample. Doing so allows a Client to perform historical trend analysis.
