FC HBA Profile |
 |
The FC HBA Profile allows a Client manage the Fibre Channel (FC) ports on a system using a Host Based Adapter (HBA). Using this Profile, a Client can do the following:
- Discover the HBA topology
- Retrieve statistics for each port
- Retrieve the WWN for each port
- Define the persistent binding to a target port WWN
- Bind a LUN to an OS device name
- Determine the OS device name assigned to a LUN
- Blink the LED
- Ask to be notified when new FC HBA hardware comes online
- Ask to be notified when existing FC HBA hardware is disabled
- Determine the software or firmware installed on the FC HBA hardware
- Determine asset information about the FC HBA hardware
- Determine the product information for the FC HBA hardware
This Profile allows a Client to retrieve statistics about an FC port. For example, a Client can retrieve the number of bytes and frames transmitted or received. A Client also retrieve the number CRC errors and link failures.
FC HBA ports can come in a variety of hardware configurations. For example, a single HBA card may contain multiple FC ports. Alternatively, the FC ports may be integrated into a motherboard. Regardless, a Client can retrieve physical information about the FC HBA hardware. For example, a Client can retrieve the version or serial number. Additionally, a Client can retrieve product information about the FC HBA hardware. For example, a Client can retrieve the vendor name and an identification number (e.g., SKU).
Optionally, a Client can retrieve information about the software or firmware installed on FC HBA hardware. For example, a Client can retrieve the name of the manufacturer and the version number of the firmware installed on the FC HBA hardware. Optionally, a vendor can choose to expose additional software information such as a build number.
The FC HBA Profile defines the following Subprofiles that represent optional features that a vendor may choose to support:
- FC Initiator Ports - allows a Client to discover all of the ports connected to a storage system using Fibre Channel (FC) that are acting as initiator ports.
