FC Target Ports Subprofile

Next

The FC Target Ports Subprofile is referenced by other SNIA Storage Profiles as an optional enhancement. This Subprofile allows a Client to discover the ports on a storage system using Fibre Channel (FC) that are acting as front-end ports.

A Client can retrieve information about the FC ports. For example, a Client can determine whether a FC port can only serve as a target port or as either an initiator or target port. Additionally, a Client can determine the WWN for the FC ports.

Using this Subprofile, a Client can also do the following:

  • Ask to be notified when a target FC port comes online
  • Ask to be notified when a target FC port becomes disabled
  • Ask to be notified when the speed of a target FC port changes
  • Ask to be notified when the status of a target FC port changes (e.g., from “OK” to “Error”)
  • Ask to be notified when the network address of a target FC port changes

The FC Target Ports Subprofile can optionally enhance the following storage Profiles and Subprofiles to provide this additional capability:

  • Array Profile - allows a Client to manage external RAID arrays and disk storage systems
  • Storage Virtualizer Profile - allows a Client to manage a RAID array that does not include any local storage
  • Storage Library Profile - allows a Client to manage a storage library and its components
  • Block Server Performance Subprofile - allows a Client to manage the collection of performance statistics for a server that uses block I/O
